I’ve been studying the book of Luke in my morning devotion. The other day I came upon the scriptures where Jesus said,
“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Luke 11: 9-10 KJV)
When I read those words I realized I don’t have a lot of things I desire simply because I haven’t asked for it.
Opportunity and abundance don’t just drop in your lap. You have to do two things. First you have to prepare and position yourself for it. Second, you have to ask for what you want.
A couple of weeks ago I had a friend approach me about an opportunity. She has watched me over the last few years working my business. The organization she works for had a need she thought I would be perfect to fill. I met with the team to get their vision for the project. Once I knew what they wanted I had to put together a proposal on how I would implement their ideas.
Here’s the thing. I had never written a proposal like this before. I had never taken on a project like theirs before. I was marching into new and unfamiliar territory. As I worked on writing the proposal, I got frustrated. What did I need to include? What should the format be? What fee do I charge? Can I actually deliver what is expected?
All of these questions raced through my mind.
I could have said forget it. I could have given up. I could have told my friend I don’t think I’m the right person for the project. I COULD have.
I decided to shoot my shot. The worst that could happen is they reject the proposal and I end up with a template for future opportunities.
However, my proposal was accepted. I asked for what I wanted and got it.
Jesus said everyone who asks receives. I’m sure you have missed out on things you wanted because you were too afraid to ask for it. I know I have.
I encourage you to ask for what you truly want.
Look for the opportunities. Don’t wait for them to come to you.
If the door appears closed, knock. It just might open for you.
No more settling for less than your heart’s desire. Go after what you want. You got this! More importantly…God has you!
