Welp! Today is the last day of the first month of the new year. According to a report by US & World News, 8 our of 10 people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by February.
If that’s you or you’re struggling to keep the momentum moving, I have a few tips for you.
Tip #1 – You can choose to start over any day.
You don’t have to wait for the calendar to flip to a new year before deciding to begin again. You can recommit today and make January 31st your New Year’s Day.
Tip #2 – Focus on a single goal at a time.
If you must do multiples, choose no more than 3. By concentrating your efforts you can gain much more traction than spreading your energy across several projects.
Tip #3 – Don’t allow discouragement to keep you from moving forward.
I’ve been there myself, more times than I can count, where I set a goal and didn’t see the results as quickly as I expected. Trust the process and focus on doing the activities that will yield the results. Keep taking action and the results will surely follow.
Tip #4 – Stay connected to your why.
When things get difficult, as they always do, it is important to remember why you set the goal in the first place. Having a strong why attached to your goals will serve as fuel to power through the days when you just don’t feel like it.
Tip #5 – Recruit an accountability partner.
You are much more likely to follow through with the action you need to take to reach your goals when you have someone to hold you accountable. Ask someone who will support you in the journey and also hold your feet to the fire when you’re being lazy. You don’t want someone who will accept shallow excuses.
If you implement these tips in your your pursuit of your goals, you set yourself up for success. Before you know it you’ll move from goal setter to goal getter!
Happy goal getting!
